Achromatic Registers

This project in Zeebrugge is focused on capturing the presence and stories of Romanian communities in the city. The goal is to highlight the rich diversity and culture of this community and share their experiences in Zeebrugge with a broader audience.

Experiences have been collected through engaging in conversations with Romanian residents of Zeebrugge to gather their personal stories, experiences, and memories. These stories will form the core of this project and publications.

The collected photos are creatively and artistically processed to create two visual publications. The focus was capturing images of different locations within the city and investigating the visual relationships with the Romanian community residing in the area. The primary objective was to comprehend how this community engages with the urban environment and to document the distinctive narratives and significance inherent in this interaction.

The end results of this project will be compiled into two publications that honor the Romanian community in Zeebrugge and brings their stories to life. The first publication will serve as a lasting document and a way to share these stories with a wider audience, containing diverse experiences translated through a variation of graphic experiments. The second publication includes the use of typography, layout design, and graphic elements, and serves as a hand-out for the visitors to remember the event showcasing the Romanian community through Ava’s eyes.

This project in Zeebrugge aims not only to acknowledge the presence of the Romanian community but also to celebrate and share their unique perspectives and experiences with the world. The result will be a beautiful collection reflecting the diversity and richness of the community in Zeebrugge.

The experimental designs have not only captured the visual aspects but also the human stories and the rich cultural diversity that characterises this city. Through this visual study, Ava has become aware of the profound connections between the Romanian community and Zeebrugge, enriching my understanding of this city and its residents.
